Lucid dreams happen when you are asleep, but they can influence your life with more strength than other regular dream types; they have a significant impact on our mental, emotional, and physical health.

Learning lucid dreaming needs much effort and focused attention, but it can play an influential role in your daily life when you know lucid dreaming. There are several significant applications throughout our life, such as increasing the dreamer's creativity, enhancing physical and motor skills, and many more. And along with, lucid dreams also have many clinical applications, which are further discussed in detail in this article.

Emotional Healing: Nightmares and Anxiety

 

Lucid dreams are very effective for emotional healing and reducing nightmares which are sometimes the result of post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD), anxiety and depression. Nightmares mostly emerge during the REM state. They are very intense and remembered till the person wakes up.

If a person starts lucid dreaming, they are aware that it's a dream, then they get control over the dream's content, so they can change the scene to get rid of nightmares. When they know that it is just a dream, they realize that they can't get any physical harm or damage.

Besides these, lucid dreaming can help with handling stress, traumas, doubts and chronic diseases with the assistance of a doctor. When a patient tells about their doubts, speak with the doctor, then the doctor suggests how to command over changing the view and guide him to explore himself in his dreams. If your mind is healed after the doctor's assistance, you will indeed be healed by the placebo effect.

 

According to a study, a 35y older woman having nightmares was offered treatment through lucid dreaming. The woman has significant depression and borderline personality disorder diagnosis in her history. With the assistance of a doctor, some beneficial skills are developed in her by lucid dreaming. These skills helped her reduce depression and nightmare frequency, which boosted her mental health development.

 

Mental and Physical Healing

 

Lucid dreams have a significant role in combating with physical and mental healing of a person. As you know, there is a strong connection between mind and body that no one negates. Physical addiction like smoking can affect both body and mind and be treated through lucid dreaming, hypnotherapy and mental training.

 

According to some evidence reported in the literature, lucid dreaming contributes to physical and mental health. A brief questionnaire on the benefits of lucid dreaming on physical and mental health was completed by 386 participants. 90% of the participants reported some benefit on psychological and physical health due to lucid dreaming. The details were high-frequency lucid dreams, spirituality and mindfulness.

Conclusion

Lucid dreaming has proven clinical application and is very effective in treating nightmares, anxiety and depression, physical and mental health; LD can be a feasible aid for treating more diseases. However, more research is needed for better analysis and therapeutic effects of lucid dreaming in clinical practice.
