3-days work and a few minutes' sleep revolved arrangement of elements

He was continually working for three days with elements names and properties of one element on each card and trying to arrange them in a connected pattern. He fell asleep, and when he awoke, he envisioned the logical arrangements of elements and immediately wrote on a paper. Later on, Dmitri Mendeleev mentioned in his diary: "I saw in a dream a table where all the elements fell into place as required. Awakening, I immediately wrote it down on a piece of paper... Only in one place did a correction later seem necessary."

A nightmare turned into an invention.

He had been working on the idea for a long time; everything seemed clear to him, but he was still struggling to design a needle. Elias Howe's stress led him to a nightmare where he had 24 hrs to invent the machine; otherwise, he'd face a painful death. When he failed and was taken to be executed, he observed that spears in the warrior's hands had an eye on the tip. That was when he realized how the sewing machine's needle could be; he woke up in the stress and implemented his idea to create the lock-stitched sewing machine.

The idea to download the entire web through links

Another great invention is the outcome of a nightmare because of anxiety and stress. He had a dream with imagination to download the complete web by just keeping the links. He mentions that upon waking, he wrote down the idea that became the basis for an algorithm to design a new search engine, Google. Larry Page, the inventor of Google, advises, "When a really great dream shows up, grab it!"

His mother passed away from diabetes, and he wanted to find a cure for it. Although the working of insulin to cure diabetes was not clear, the link between these two was already identified. Dr. Fredrick Banting kept working on the problem but failed to achieve any results; he was frustrated and fell asleep while working with it. He got a solution in his dream with an understanding of experiments type that helped him make insulin work for diabetic treatment.
